Someday Today

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the world of food styling? Join me for a glimpse into a typical day in my life as a food stylist, where creativity meets precision, and every plate tells a story.

6:30 AM – Rise and Shine The day starts early, just as the sun begins to cast its warm glow. A good breakfast is essential to fuel a day filled with artistic endeavors. I often opt for a hearty bowl of overnight oats adorned with fresh berries—a delightful way to kickstart the morning.

8:00 AM – Studio Setup Arriving at the studio, the first order of business is setting the stage. From selecting the perfect backdrop to arranging an array of props, each element is chosen with meticulous care. Lighting is adjusted to ensure it complements the day’s shoot.

9:30 AM – Prepping the Stars Today’s stars are a selection of vibrant fruits and decadent pastries. Each piece is inspected, and imperfections are delicately addressed. A strategic cut here, a brush of oil there—every detail matters to ensure the dish looks as delectable as it tastes.

11:00 AM – On-Set Magic The magic begins as the camera starts rolling. With precision and flair, I arrange the elements on the plate, playing with colors, textures, and negative space. Patience is key; sometimes, it takes multiple takes to capture the essence of culinary perfection.

1:00 PM – Nourishment Break A well-deserved break calls for a nourishing lunch. Today’s choice is a quinoa salad with grilled vegetables—a healthy yet satisfying option to recharge.

2:00 PM – Creative Consultation Collaboration is the heart of my work. The afternoon often involves discussions with photographers, chefs, and clients. Understanding their vision and bringing it to life is a collaborative dance that adds depth to the art of food styling.

3:30 PM – Specialty Shoot An exciting project awaits—a feature on artisanal cheeses. This calls for a shift in ambiance and an exploration of rustic props. Each cheese wheel becomes a canvas, and I relish the opportunity to showcase their unique textures and flavors.

5:00 PM – Fine-Tuning As the day winds down, there’s time for fine-tuning and reviewing the day’s captures. Adjustments to lighting, minor edits, and final touches ensure that each image reflects the artistry and effort invested.

6:30 PM – Reflecting on a Day Well Spent As the studio lights dim, I reflect on the day’s accomplishments. From the meticulous arrangement of ingredients to the collaborative energy on set, every day is a canvas waiting to be painted. The art of food styling is not just about making food look beautiful—it’s about creating an experience that tantalizes the senses.
